Elwyn started his music career at the early age of 13, playing guitar in 1962 with Jared "Butsy" Martin, a former member of Bits and Pieces.  The band was called The Mojos which included Farell "Popcorn" Cunningham, a close friend of Bits and Pieces, and Corey Lemoine, now deceased.

Elwyn played guitar and was the lead singer in The Playboys in 1964 with former Bits and Pieces member Danny St. Pierre.

In 1966 he sang and played organ with a group called the Seagram Seven.   In 1966-67 Elwyn played keyboard with The Sabers from which the Bits and Pieces band was formed. This band included former Bits members Corey Lemoine, Lowel "Butch" Schexnayder, Camille Schexnayder, Danny St. Pierre,  and now deceased Larry Amy.   Recent members Butsy  and Sigur (Siggy) Martin were also a part of the Sabers.
